It specialises in the assessment of businesses with regard to quality management systems such as ISO 9001, environmental management systems such as ISO 14001 and management systems for health and safety. 

BAS publishes several guides regarding aspects associated with assessment and certification and also maintains a register of audited organisations. Details of audited organisations are published in the international register.
